Gianni Infantino is the new FIFA president


Gianni Infantino was elected new president of FIFA today's extraordinary election congress of Fifa.

Infantino received 115 votes in the second round of elections in Zurich today that it was enough to win. His main rival, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa received 88 votes.


In the first round, Federer was again before Sheikh Salman with a difference of only 3 votes - 88:85.

In the first round the most votes garnered Infantino with 88, followed by Sheikh Salman with 85. But that was not enough to Infantino to be named the new president as a victory in the first round he took 2/3 of votes . Third in the voting was the Prince of Jordan Ali Bin Al-Hussein, 27, and Frenchman Jerome Champagne received 7 votes. In the second round of the election winner must have 50 percent and one vote.

Gianni Infantino is known to the public as the official face during the numerous ceremonies of UEFA. As Secretary-General, however, he had a key role in strengthening serious financial power plant, through which UEFA catch up with its main competitor in the face of FIFA.

In his election program 45 years Infantino presented ambitious plans for a substantial increase of funds for the football federations. He said he plans to invest nearly $ 1 billion for the development of football in four years. In addition, he also proposed an increase in the number of participants in the World Cup from 32 to 40.

With today's selection Gianni Infantino put a final end to the long rule of former President Sepp Blatter. Federer led the post more than 17 years. The consequences for both were - initially disposal of football for eight years, later reduced to 6. This was the reason Platini not to participate in elections for a new president of FIFA.
