“Kevin was 18. Even then he had an excellent technique. I had rarely seen such a thing. He was an attacking midfielder with an excellent first contact and immediately moved the sport, created openings. For me, he was an instant revelation.
"I asked for the tapes of De Bruyne and took them to Chelsea. I showed them to the chief scout.
“He said he preferred De Bruyne but added there are many players like him.
“I stated 'No, this boy has something additional'. I known as the director of Genk [Dirk Degraen].
“He told me many more groups had been watching him. I had to take action, I needed to be daring and I took the tape to the large boss of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich.
“Roman is a real football lover. He not solely desires to win, he desires to see lovely football. He watched the tape, did not say something, however referred to as the scouting department.
“’That De Bruyne guy has to come back’, he said. If the large boss likes you, that is of course an effective way to make your entry."
